Connect Stripe with a restricted key
Stripe connects with a read-only restricted key. You create a live mode key that can read only what Biddle needs, then paste it into the Composio page that Biddle’s Home tab opens.
Before you start
On this page
Step 1: Create a restricted key in live mode
In the Stripe Dashboard, go to Developers > API keys, make sure test mode is off, and click Create restricted key. Name it “Biddle (read only)”.
1 Make sure Test mode is off, 2 Create restricted key, 3 name it Biddle (read only). Step 2: Set five permissions to Read
Set Charges, Disputes, Invoices, Products, and Subscriptions to Read. If Account information is listed, set it to Read too. Leave everything else at None.
Only the marked rows on Read, everything else on None. Nothing needs Write. Step 3: Create the key and copy it
Click Create key and copy the value that starts with
rk_live_. A live key you create yourself is shown only once.1 Create key, 2 copy the rk_live_ value. Step 4: Paste it into Biddle
In Slack, open Biddle’s Home tab. Under Connections, on the Stripe row, click Connect. On the Composio page that opens in your browser, paste the key, then come back to Slack and pick the products Biddle should read.
1 Connect, 2 paste the key, 3 connect, 4 Pick products. Step 5: To disconnect later
Expire the key under API keys > Restricted keys in Stripe, and Biddle can no longer read Stripe. To also delete the Stripe data Biddle stored, click Disconnect in Biddle’s Home tab.
From the key’s menu, 1 Expire key.
Common snags
- It connected, but Biddle shows no data
- It’s probably a test mode key (
rk_test_), which reads only test data. Go back to step 1, turn test mode off, and create anrk_live_key. - Does the key need write access?
- No. Biddle only reads from Stripe. You don’t need a key with Write permissions or a secret key (
sk_live_).
